Past & Recent game show news

12/26: GSN airs programming starting at 8AM
"Starting tomorrow, GSN will begin airing its programming starting at 8AM Eastern?Standard/Time. Match Game will kick off the day. One of my favorite classics! GSN must have the money to do that now. Starting in January I believe, they will revert back to Match Game '74. Sad for Match Game fans. I really wanted to see the entire Match Game series up until the 1980's.

NOTE: GSN will have a Baggage marathon for New Years Day (January 1, 2011). Doesn't GSN air enough?!?"

12/26: Drew's Improv-A-Ganza
"Drew Carey's new show on GSN will be called "Improv-A-Ganza" I believe. On the GSN Message Boards, I am hearing, "The show will replace Poker", "The show will flop" or "The show doesn't matter". I think the show will be great though I haven't seen it yet. I've doubted GSN many times but, I think this show will be funny. This show might not be any different than "Who's Line is it Anyway?".

The show will air March 28, 2011. Tapings begin Next month If I recall."

1/14: GSN Revives Lingo
"GSN is reviving the popular word game Lingo! I've been critizing GSN alot over the years because of them airing less classics and about them airing the trash "Baggage". The revived version of Lingo will be hosted by Bill Engvall. Chuck Woolery apparently will not be hosting. (They must be focusing on the younger demo, as always). Chuck Woolery was a good host but as a poster said on the GSN Message boards, No host can ruin Lingo.

40 Episodes will be taped and the show will air in June. Shandi Finnessy will not be in the revived version of Lingo. There will be a new co-host as Alex Davis said on GSN's forums. Not sure who it will be yet, I will try to post more info when I get some!

Sure, Chuck Woolery won't host but, I've been wanting Lingo to return for months now. Though I've always wanted it to return since it finished in 2007."

1/15: Wendy Williams hosts "Love Triangle" on GSN; Jerry Rice hosts "Catch" on NBC
It's been announced that Talk Show host Wendy Williams will host the NEW dating show "Love Triangle" on GSN. Wendy’s syndicated talk show was recently renewed for a third season. The show will begin taping next Saturday You can read about the show and more on BuzzerBlog. According to BuzzerBlog, This is GSN’s sixth new original show currently with new episodes or looking at renewal.

BuzzerBlog: Some time ago NBC announced development of a new reality show called Catch. You play an insane game of catch, having to catch the ball in a variety of strange ways. It’s being targeted as a counter-offering to ABC’s massively popular Wipeout franchise. Deadline is reporting

that NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice will host along with co-hosts Michael Kosta and Rob Gleeson. This is just for a pilot and has not been fully picked up yet, but the pilot is coming soon and we’ll see what happens with it.

I don't like copying other peoples stuff but, I didn't know what to write about it and I thought the show sounded kind of interesting.

1/15: Watson wins Jeopardy! test match versus Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter
The first test game with Watson vs. Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter took place on Thursday. Well, Watson won! This should be exciting to see when the shows with tjem air. I am really excited! This should be so much fun. You can see the video at: http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/13/ibms-watson-supercomputer-destroys-all-humans-in-jeopardy-pract/.

This makes me wish GSN would bring back Jeopardy!, don't know why but, I do miss it on GSN, that and Wheel of Fortune. Hopefully, they return someday. Jeopardy! was on 1994-2009 or 2010 (correct me if I'm wrong).

1/21: Regis Philbin announces retirement
Regis Philbin has been around for over fourty years doing his stuff on TV! The popular talk show-game show host announced retirement on Tuesday, January 18. Regis currently hosts the popular morning talk show Live! With Regis and Kelly, along with Kelly Ripa. In 1999, Regis hosted Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, I don't care for Millionaire these days with the new stuff. Regis will still be the man of the hour on that!

Regis also hosted the short-lived game show Million Dollar Password, His first game show hosting job was with the show The Neighbors on ABC in 1975.

Of course, Regis occasionally appears on The Late Show with David Letterman. He may still do occasional appearances on that. Regis & Dave are really funny together on that. Keep your eyes out. This week, David mentioned Regis leaving the show and had him on the phone and it was really funny! That was when Betty White was on.

Kelly Ripa, said, “I think I can only speak for America and all of us here when I say that it has been a pleasure and a privilege and a dream come true, and I wish I could do something to make you change your mind.”

2/1: Spike picks up Quiz Show "Repo Games"
BuzzerBlog reported this. In the first part of their post, they mentioned Cash Cab, which I've never seen. I did hear about it though.

From BuzzerBlog, Spike has ordered 20 episodes of the nation-roaming quiz show which attempts to give debtors a second chance to keep their items. The quiz show Repo Games follows repo men Josh Lewis and Tom Detone going around the country hunting down debtors. They will give the people one more chance to keep their car by answering some trivia questions. If they win, they keep their car or item. If they lose, it’s going away. Production on the show starts in February.

By the way, the two “hosts” are apparently real repo men. Someone is asked five questions. If they get three right, the car is paid off right then. If they don’t, they lose the car and it’s in the impound lot. Spike says it’s Cops meets Jeopardy!. That’s a special breed of hillbilly. It’s also from the producers of Jersey Shore. If nothing else this one should have less VD than their other work.

Interesting game!

Thats all I can report for now!
